Dave Aftandilian Wide-ranging in its emotions, from rage to melancholy, with a nice mix of aggression and introspection. Also some really beautiful guitar melodies, nicely balanced by the raw pain in the vocals. In Ruohtta’s music I feel the darkness and cold of the Northern lands, and the powerful, undying place they hold in the hearts of the Indigenous peoples there.

This first full-length album by Ruohtta, a one-man effort, begins with the ignition of a match (taulatikku) and departs in ashes (gutna). The music and lyrical content on the album may be seen as a continuation of the Reetessä EP although focusing on even darker and rawer sound territories. There are less ambient features and more straight forward Black metal aggression found here. The lyrics, performed in a mixed language of Meänkieli and Sámi, channelizes violent resistance, vengeance and dark history in the circumpolar region. Gutna does not hesitate, it goes directly for the throat.

On ne frappe pas un homme à terre : c'est ce que dit la règle mais NONE a déjà prouvé qu'il ne les suivait pas et si son album éponyme retirait toute perspective de béatitude spirituelle, Life has gone on long enough, son deuxième opus, nous interdit l'accès au bonheur terrestre. La vie n'a aucune substance et la production plus distante le confirme. Le DSBM s'empare de textures sonores blues, mettant en relief une dépression urbaine. Les cris partent en fumées : ne restent que les pleurs... Jordan Vauvert
